IFPRI Research Data Management Open Access (RDMOA) Policy
IFPRI recognizes that good practices in research data management and open access to research data are integral to high-quality research and innovations. The Institute has been sharing some research data since the 1990s and established its first data policy in 2005. The policy was revised in 2010, and again in 2019. According to the latest IFPRI RDMOA Policy:
"Research Data shall be deposited into an IFPRI-designated Research Data Repository as soon as possible and no later than (i) one (1) year after data collection ceases, or (ii) within six (6) months of publication of a peer-reviewed Information Product that makes use of the Research Data, or (iii) upon the completion of Research project, whichever comes first and notwithstanding any agreement, covenant, or provision to the contrary." (See full policy here.)
CGIAR Open Access and Data Management (OAOD) Policy
Open access and open data are critical for quality research and innovations. Recognizing the value of open access and open data, all 15 CGIAR Centers, including IFPRI, endorsed the CGIAR Open Access and Data Management Policy in 2013. According to this policy:
"Data (and any relevant data collection and analysis tools) shall, subject to any additional donor requirements, be deposited in a suitable repository and made Open Access as soon as possible and in any event within 12 months of completion of the data collection or appropriate project milestone, or within 6 months of publication of the information products underpinned by that data, whichever is sooner. Data deposited shall be prepared in a manner consistent with the aims of this Policy. Existing and future databases shall be made Open Access." (See full policy here.)
Funder's Research Data Policy
The environment in which data are generated, used, and exchanged for research purposes is rapidly changing everywhere. The open data revolution, a movement to make data available for public use is also underway around the world. To support the open data movement and to protect the privacy of data subjects, many funders have established data sharing policies and requirements. The table below gives an overview of the data sharing policies from some IFPRI donors.

European Research Council (ERC), Horizon 2020 | Must be made open as soon as possible | Yes | Access policy here. |
Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), United Kingdom | Must be made open within 3 months following the end of the grant period | Yes | Access policy here. |
Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) | Should be as accessible and reusable as possible, as specified in the data management plan submitted by the grantee. | Yes | Access policy here. |
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) | Must submit the dataset and supporting documentation to the Data Development Library (DDL) within 30 calendar days after the dataset is first used to produce the intellectual work. If research datasets are submitted to the publicly accessible repository, they do not have to be submitted to the DDL. However, grantees must submit notice to the DDL. |

Publisher's Research Data Policy
Many scholarly publishers and journals are implementing policies that require making the datasets underpinning the published manuscripts accessible.
